Steve Bein

I teach philosophy at the University of Dayton. I received my PhD from the University of Hawai'i, specializing in ethics and Japanese philosophy.

In my teaching, I am committed to active learning, service learning, and socially and globally engaged education. In my research, I am committed to the
Boyer model of scholarship.

My research interests include comparative moral philosophy, compassion, and the intersection of applied ethics and environmental ethics. My published work includes two books,
Compassion and Moral Guidance (summarized here), Purifying Zen (summarized here) and a number of book chapters and articles.
